Fiction is alive and well and living in Brisbane

And I’m having fun with it! Here I am catching up on some of the latest ‘on-dits’ at a recent Georgette Heyer Regency party. Ten women played ladies at an elegant soirée inspired by the marvellous, totally fluffy fiction of Ms Heyer. All guests prepared period costumes, language worksheets, a short performance piece, and some period dishes or drinks for an elegant supper.
The latter half of 2009, by contrast, was dominated by convening the Aurealis Awards’ Fantasy Short Story judging panel. We had just shy of 100 entries, ranging from half-page micro-fiction to a 20,000-word novella. What a delight to participate in a community of people supporting speculative fiction in Australia! But don’t read all about it here, skip to the Aurealis Awards website.
